Objectives:
to identify factors associated with common mental disorders, suicide risk, and stimulant use among undergraduate students.
Methods:
a quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational, and analytical study was conducted with a sample of 190 students from a public university. Validated instruments were used for data collection, and logistic regression models were used for analysis.
Results:
71.6% of participants tested positive for common mental disorders. Suffering losses during the pandemic was a risk factor for common mental disorders, and feeling satisfied with their life when accessing social media was a protective factor. It was found that 23.9% were at high risk for suicide, with a higher risk for those without religion, using non-prescription medications, diagnosed with a mental disorder, and consuming alcohol. Furthermore, 73.7% of participants used stimulants. Stimulant use showed no significant relationship with the variables analyzed.
Conclusions:
this research contributes evidence for promotion and prevention actions in academic mental health.

Objectives:
to translate and adapt the Attitudes Towards Suicide questionnaire to the Brazilian context.
Methods:
methodological, cross-sectional study. The original English version of the instrument was translated into Brazilian Portuguese, subsequently back-translated into the original language and sent to the original authors. It was then assessed by a Committee of Experts composed of nine members and evaluated through a pre-test with 35 participants from the general population aged 18 to 65 years. Data were coded and analyzed using a statistical software.
Results:
most participants evaluated the questionnaire as good (88.6%); with important items (94.3%); easy to understand (88.6%) and without need for changes (91.2%).
Conclusions:
the instrument allows the analysis of factors that may influence attitudes towards suicide in the national context. This information may support better interventions and strategic actions for suicide prevention.

The data were collected between March and May 2010 from hospital charts and structured interviews with the participants and parents/guardians. Among the 25 cases of attempted suicide registered in the period, 21 were female adolescents, who made up the sample of the present study. The adolescents were between 13 and 19 years of age. Pesticides were the most frequent toxic agent used (61.9%). The results of the present study underscore the importance of studying suicide in this population, with a focus on family relations, in order to lay the foundation for the development of prevention and treatment programs for this vulnerable group.
